This is so honest and beautifully expressed, Lani. It moved me and I loved it.

Dear Lani, this piece speaks to me (and many writers out there I am sure) on multiple levels!

"... ask yourself in the silence of night: must I write? … if you can meet this solemn question with a strong and simple I must, then construct your life in accord with that need ...", says Rilke.

So keep writing, Lani! I want to thank you for being yourself, and continue to write despite the heartbreaks. Because real healings come from writing itself, not confirmation from others.

Oh by the way, followers gained by following are not real fans of our writing - gosh l don't think they even read our writings! lol

Thanks for keep writing!

Yes, I actually read a great piece from Jamal about turning off likes after he hit some solid success. And I don't know who followers are, do they engage? Are they the silent fans? Or are they as you say, not reading our work? Who knows! I certainly can't keep up so I can't blame them. Thanks for reading, Yi. 💗💗💗

Thanks for your honesty, Lani.

Much of what you share here resonates with me in one way or another. I have kinda resigned myself to the idea that my childhood dream of publishing a book is just that... a dream, but in a strange way, the change in thinking has been a relief too. Less pressure and less need to chase something! (I have also stopped doing morning pages as I really didn't enjoy doing it!). I am just trying to enjoy the writing when I have the opportunity to do it.

I really enjoy what you write, so I am glad that you are going to continue writing here!

Thanks, Sarah. I had no idea you had that dream, too. But yes, I feel that relief you speak of, allowing yourself to enjoy life and the process. It's gentler, and probably better for the skin and digestive system, too. 😂 Hugs from Cambodia!
